Caipirinha (k-eye-per-reen-yah) is a tradition in Brazil, and at Novilhos, it’s a favorite summer Happy Hour drink. It’s great for hot summer days, and it’s easy to make at home. Add seasonal fruit if desired.
- 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice, plus 3 lime wedges and 1 lime wheel
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup (see Note) or white sugar
- 2 ounces cachaça
How to make this recipe
Fill a rocks glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker, muddle the lime juice and lime wedges with the sugar and simple syrup. Add the cachaça and 1 cup of ice and shake vigorously. Strain the mixture into the rocks glass and garnish the caipirinha with the lime wheel.
To make simple syrup, simmer 1/2 cup of granulated sugar with 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. The simple syrup can be refrigerated in a covered container for up to 1 month.
